According to an anonymous source, Phone Arena has details on the upcoming HTC Flyer 2 – the HTC 2nd generation 7-inch Android Tablet. The Flyer 2 is said to feature a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels and the same highly touted anodized aluminum body the HTC One S has. This new tablet also will be powered by a 28nm Snapdragon S4 chip, is expected to be running Android’s latest OS, 4.1 Jelly Bean, have a 3-megapixel rear and a 1-megapixel front facing camera. The original HTC Flyer came with an optional stylus and a version of HTC Sense supporting all sorts of stylus actions, so it’s possible that the new Flyer will also retain that. As always HTC is aiming to make this device extremely thin and attractive as it will come in at only 0.28-inch (7.1mm) thick according to the source.
It has been indictated HTC intends to compete with the existing market in price and outstanding design and not in specs. At 7-inches, the Flyer 2 faces off against the Nexus 7, the upcoming Kindle Fire 2 and an expected iPad mini this October. Whether HTC will be able to effectively draw consumers from these market leading devices is the true question.
As of yesterday, HTC announced a major event for September 19th in New York City. The event is believed to be the unveiling of the rumored and hyped 5-inch HTC phone, but the Flyer 2 may also make it’s appearance at the event as well.
