AT&T Will Unlock In-Contract iPhones For Deployed Military Personnel, Why Not Android Devices?

AT&T has been offering free iPhone unlocks for people who are done with their contracts for a while now. But today, AT&T has confirmed that they are offering free unlocks for iPhones that are still in a contract for those in the military outside of the US. All they need to quality is an account in good standing and some deployment verification, and they can get their phone unlocked for free. This is great of AT&T of course, so we praise them.

But when will they be doing the same for Android handsets? It’s not like the majority of phones AT&T sells are iPhones. They should definitely do the same for other phones as well, it’d benefit a lot more people.

maybe cuz iphone is one device- and Androids are tons, I dont know...But do they then have to keep paying their ATT contract every month and then pay their new Sim card international sim card to make calls?

no, ATT also allows Military to freeze their contracts while deployed. Ive done it three times now. ATT has always been great during my 6 years in the military. On my first deployment in 2009 they actually unlocked an HTC for me for free instantly over the phone. Then you just get a month-to-month SIM card, plug it in, and go. Thats why i've been with ATT for 9 years (when they were still cingular)
