Google Releases Android Platform Breakdown – Ice Cream Sandwich On 20.9%, Jelly Bean On 1.2% Of Devices

Yes, it’s that time of the month again – Google has updated its worldwide Android distribution numbers. These new numbers present some exciting news on the progress of Android in the market place. The biggest change is the significant jump of devices active now with 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Ice Cream Sandwich has made a significant jump to nearly 21%, up from 16% this time last month. The bump is attributed to to long-awaited updates finally being pushed out to a handful of Gingerbread devices, which has now dropped from last month’s 60.6% to 57.5%.

Jelly Bean has made some strides as well, although not as substantial of a jump. 4,1 Jelly Bean increased to 1.2% from last month’s debut at .8%. This number is anticipated to rise as more devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Verizon/Sprint), Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and HTC One X are updated or released with the latest Android firmware.
