Motorola’s not wasting any time in getting in front of the Android software update promises they’ve made with a brand new update to their device software upgrade page. Unfortunately, for owners of the Atrix 4G and Atrix 2, the end of the road may nigh as the newest update only says “Further plans coming soon,” which sounds anything but promising. The same can be said for the Xyboard 8.2 and Xoom Family Edition with their own Ice Cream Sandwich updates pushed back until sometime in the fourth quarter. The news doesn’t get any better for DROID Bionic owners as Motorola pushes the ICS update back for it as well, until sometime in the fourth quarter.
With Motorola already looking ahead to the promise of Jelly Bean updates, we have to wonder why the hard luck in pushing out Ice Cream Sandwich updates for some of their older, yet still popular devices like the DROID 3. In fact, the Atrix 2 isn’t even 12 months old yet, watching it get left behind just makes us feel bad for owners who purchased the device at launch. It’s even more unfortunate that the DROID 3, a device more powerful than the Nexus S will remain two updates behind, even if the Nexus S is a Google experience device.
The fact that Motorola is promising a $100 credit toward any new Motorola phone if your 2011+ device doesn’t get Jelly Bean is nice, but it’s still going to leave a bad taste in the mouths of plenty of folks if Motorola can’t come through.
What say you? If Motorola can’t make good on their promise of updates for any phones from 2011 to the present, will you bail?
