Motorola Takes A Shot At Apple’s Poorly Received Maps App

There’s little question that Apple’s new Maps app introduced with iOS 6 has been poorly received. In fact, I would even go as far as saying that calling the app “poorly received” would be putting it mildly as Apple’s Maps app is the subject of ridicule by Motorola, Nokia, and so many others.

Apple had to know that moving away from Google Maps was a risky proposition, given all the time and staff Google has crafting one of the best mapping experiences the world has ever known. Still, Apple and Google are in the midst of a breakup over iOS 6 with Apple branching out and away from a reliance on Google’s feature set.

Which brings us to Motorola’s newly posted image where they ask:

Looking for 315 E 15th in Manhattan? Google Maps on DROID RAZR M will get you there & not #iLost in Brooklyn.

Motorola posted the message and image on their Google+ and Twitter pages, making sure the message was loud and clear. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that there is a little plug for the RAZR M, and we wouldn’t be surprised if #iLost hits the trending list on Twitter sometime this weekend.

For now, Apple is certainly on the defensive over their map “situation” and while they can promise it’s a work in progress that will be improved over time, they’ve clearly made a rare Apple blunder in a big big way.

Maybe Apple is just trying to keep things simple. You know, looking at aerial maps can be quite daunting for some, especially perhaps for those that enjoy the clean, clear, simple interface offered by the iPhoney. ;-)

Apple should have known better. But they are greedy and would rather have everything for themselves than to support someone else. I hope this blows up in their faces. I still say they are the reason that Flash is no longer available... I really hope with their stupid move they aren't trying to do the same hoping Google maps will disappear. All those loyal Apple supporters supporting a shady company such as Apple. Next thing you know they will want you to tattoo your Apple ID to your arm and I bet you'd do it.

JBLmobileG1 I seriously doubt Google Maps will be going anywhere ever. They have THE best Maps application on the planet for a reason and continuously getting better. They have too many  years of hard work, and petabytes of data for them to play second fiddle to Apple. it'll be sometime before Apple catches up in this arena...

I'm totally not an Apple hater, but Google gets a lot of flack for releasing things that seem "beta" and Apple gets praised for their "perfection" it's good to see the shoe on the other foot for once this time...

Haha That's pretty awesome... I'm sure Apple will get it fixed as well, but might as well take some legitimate shots at them while they can... It's kinda funny that Google is using they're newly acquired Motorola to take the shots at Apple... Sneaky, sneaky...

Not a big deal. I'm sure Apple will improve the maps app in short time. I don't use Apple though so this doesn't really affect me...
