Mysterious HTC handset surfaces, Note II contender bound for Verizon

Images of a mysterious HTC device have surfaced on a Chinese phone forum, indicating that the Taiwanese manufacturer could be gearing up to release a new handset in the US market. We previously heard rumors that HTC was developing a 5-inch 1080p device for Verizon that could go head-to-head with the Galaxy Note and upcoming LG Intuition.

We don’t have much information to go on other than the two leaked photos. The design follows HTC’s usual 3 capacitive key combination along the bottom, and the backing heavily resembles the One X’s unibody layout. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise us if this phone turned out to be another CDMA version of the One X slated for Verizon Wireless. The red and black two-toned paint job definitely hints at a potential “DROID” marketing campaign, but all we can do is speculate at this point.

One of our own sources has suggested that Verizon may be introducing a new variant of the Droid Incredible, dubbed the Droid Incredible XL. Either way, it looks like we’ll have to wait until we hear something official from HTC or Verizon. More on this story as it develops.
