Remember that Pantech Magnus that we reported on earlier? Pantech’s first foray into the high end world? That wasn’t accurate, apparently. The Magnus, now revealed to be the Pantech Flex, is actually a budget phone that will only be $50 on contract with AT&T. The specs we reported on were not accurate, so here are the real ones:
- 4.3″ qHD Super AMOLED display (may be PenTile)
- 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 (that’s the full S4 Plus 28nm Krait chip, not a cheap Play)
- 8GB memory, expandable with microSD card
- 8MP rear camera with 1080p video, 2MP front camera
- 1,830 mAh battery
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Pantech’s overlay
A $50 phone with good looks and specs to match? That’s not the only trick up its sleeve. With Pantech’s Android overlay comes something called “Easy Experience” mode. It’s a whole different UI with a different launcher, settings menu, and lockscreen. Nothing is really customizable, but it’s all dead easy to use. Each page has something important for a user to see, with everything simplified as much as possible. This is for new smartphone buyers to ease themselves into the new age of technology. However, you can easily turn it off and return to the standard launcher, a nice lockscreen, and the full settings menu. It’s quite clever, how you can change everything with the flip of a switch. Now if only they can achieve the same with a overlay/AOSP switch, for when you just want the fully stock Android experience.
This phone will be available for $50 on contract on September 16th, so be sure to check with AT&T to get yours soon. Even if you are no beginner, it seems like a great little phone with a great processor.
