AT&T’s holiday event wrap-up continues with a third and final post showing off two hotly anticipated smartphones, the LG Optimus G and Sony Xperia TL. Our attention on the Optimus G is two fold, for one LG is billing it as a competitor to the Galaxy S III and secondly, the Optimus G is widely rumored to be a possible platform for the next Nexus device. We’ve already had a pretty good look at the international Optimus G, and there isn’t a lot here that is different save from AT&T branding and pre-installed bloatware.
The Optimus G features a 4.7″ HD IPS display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, your choice of 16 or 32GB or storage and an 8 megapixel camera. The camera itself is one of the few differences between the AT&T and international version, the latter of which sports a 13 megapixel camera.
Early feedback on the Optimus G seems mixed, with the hardware itself receiving positive reviews, which is unfortunately paired with a UI skin that doesn’t seem to be winning over many fans. In fact, Gizmodo calls it “Megan Foxed Wrapped In Burlap.”
The Sony Xperia TL seems to fair a little better, with its 4.6″ 720p display, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Krait processor, 1GB of RAM, 13 megapixel camera and 16GB of expandable storage. The camera received some praise last night for low-light imagery, along with the overall solid feel of the device. Hopefully, Sony continues to support its promise that a Jelly Bean update will arrive after launch, as the Xperia TL is set to receive plenty of marketing attention as the official smartphone of the new James Bond movie, Skyfall.
