Samsung Planning To Release Smartphone With 3GB Of RAM Next Year?

Well, well what have we here as a SamMobile source provides a piece of evidence that their namesake may be working with smartphones tucking away 3GB worth of RAM inside their hardware. It was clear that Samsung was thinking toward the future when they added 2GB of RAM inside their flagship Galaxy S III to “future-proof” the hardware. This may be evidence they are working to do the same with their next generation of smartphones and/or designing features that require the extra RAM to properly function.

The hardware in this image are most likely prototype devices that will never see the light of day, but it’s that little “3Gb RAM” sticker that has our attention.

What do you think Samsung would do with 3GB of RAM inside a smartphone? Brand new feature? Completely buttonless hardware? Popcorn maker?

Is it my imagination, or is the hardware advancing faster than the software can keep up with? I don't know that there's any app available that really takes advantage of having even a second core or a single gig of RAM, much less a quad-core, 3GB device.

JimBobVII True, but if components keep getting cheaper and adding extra doesn't hurt battery life....then why not? I have 16 gigs of ram in my desktop computer....I'm never going to NEED that much, but the price to get 8 more gigs was like $10 (found a buy 1 get 1 half off sale). We'll see tho, this might be one of those "fake rumors" that end up being false.

@JimBobVII For now it's so you can have more apps opened at the same time and switch back to them faster. But in the future your phone can stream a whole HD movie in the background while you start watching it then jump to Twitter or Facebook (if they are still relevant) comment on the movie while it's playing in a window or something.
