Sony has been pretty quiet about their upcoming plans for the Xperia lineup and Jelly Bean updates in recent months, fortunately they broke their silence this morning in a new blog post. Sony clarifies that their last models, the Xperia T and Xperia TX, which are already shipping to their carrier destinations will receive their Jelly Bean update sometime in the first quarter of 2013.
Along with the first two models, the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia Ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will all be upgraded to Android 4.1, though Sony says they “will be back” with more details regarding a delivery time-frame.
The Jelly Bean announcements weren’t the only devices with update announcements as Sony declared they would update their entire 2011 Xperia portfolio to Ice Cream Sandwich, but not beyond.
“After thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich. Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.”
