Apple Adds Samsung Galaxy Note II, SIII Mini, And Several Other Samsung Devices To Lawsuit

Apple fires and Samsung fires back. It’s the same old routine and it doesn’t look like either side are going to stop anytime soon. In this latest assault, Apple has asked that the court include 6 new devices in its lawsuit against Samsung. These devices include:

  • The Samsung Galaxy SIII running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (Apple says that this new version of Android wasn’t included in the devices reviewed by Apple’s counsel and therefore should be included)
  • The Samsung Galaxy Note II
  • The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi (It has been recently upgraded from Android 3.0 Honeycomb to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (which was released to many carriers on November 9th running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • The Samsung Rugby Pro
  • The Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini (which has yet to be officially released in the U.S., but is available for purchase via sites like Amazon.com)

This new list of devices will most likely be approved seeing as how Samsung’s addition of the iPad Mini, 5th generation iPod Touch, and 4th Generation iPad were all approved. What makes this whole situation even more silly is how both Samsung and Apple decide to pick a fight with each other on a holiday weekend; a weekend where we’re all supposed to be grateful and thankful. Of course it’ll take more than the happy holidays to keep these two from battling it out. This case will not take place until March 2014, so until then we’ll keep you posted.

Hopefully by 2014 Samsung will have updated my Galaxy S3 to the next version of Android that way Apple will be out of luck with the S3 and Android 4.1. My upgrade will be coming due in May of 2014 anyways so who's to say I will still even have this phone or not.

Yes, at this point this all just seems like a pissing match. These products will become irrelevant by 2014, but like Florian Mueller said, "These additions provide a broader revenue base against which to seek damages." So if Apple wins, they want to make sure they get as much as they can possibly get.

I'm curious on what basis these newer Samsung devices are included. They look nothing like Apple. Samsung eliminated "bounce back" and implemented that blue hue at top & bottom when you try to scroll past the bounds of the display; Samsung removed universal search (thanks Apple, I hate you even more now). What more could Apple attack Samsung for? Oh I know, Samsung is an innovator. Apple feels they've corned the market on innovation, so Samsung is infringing on something only Apple is allowed to do--innovate. Problem is, Apple stopped innovating and spends most of its time litigating.

The funny thing is that the law firms are the ones making all of the money. They will keep stringing this along forever advising their clients that this is what they need to do. Wake up Apple And Samsung, this is going to hurt you both in the long run, along with your customers!

This has become ridiculous quite a while ago. Either of them can release a new device without repercusions from the other...
