Consumer Reports Names Verizon #1 Carrier, With AT&T In Last Place

Once again, Consumer Reports has put Verizon on the #1 spot, saying that their customers were the happiest of any of the four major US carriers. And of course, AT&T has been ranked the worst. This has been an unending trend for a while.

Consumer reports bases their data on consumer surveys, so you know that this is people talking, not just a company ranking other companies. However, I never quite understood why AT&T was last. Yes, Verizon is pretty great network-wise, but AT&T has been nothing but great for me and the people I’ve talked to (especially in the Bay Area). So really, don’t put too much faith in these surveys. It’s very area dependent.

I don't understand how AT&T is last and Sprint isn't. The Consumer Reports office is a few blocks from my house and AT&T coverage is great over here.

Verizon is a cult! I had them for 2 years and when it was time to upgrade, they forced me to change my whole plan (not the mobile share plans, I would have wanted that)! So I dumped them and went with AT&T and was with them for 4 and a half years and never had one complaint.  I then switched to tmobile for a cheaper plan (BYOP Value plan) 5 months ago and love the speeds but the coverage could be better.  I have to say AT&T was my favorite.

I not only use ATT, I worked for them (but in their IT org). I was with the original ATT wireless (before being bought out by SBC, incorporated into Cingular and subsequently renamed. While many have had complaints, I've been relatively happy with their service. Would I recommend it? I'm not brand loyal. Being an analyst by trade, I realize nothing in life is "one size fits all." I've traveled throughout CA, OR, WA, TX, NV and AR. Except in sparsely populated areas, I've had service (which is true of most carriers). If you know how to deal with customer service, you can get good service. I'm really surprised it came in last.

 kanoneyez I'd say I have the same experience. Traveled cross country, had service all the way. Less 3G coverage than Verizon (other person had a VZ phone), but more cellular coverage. And here in California, the customer service has been nothing but excellent to be honest. 

I have Verizon and love their network and coverage.  Only thing is there stupid data plan that requires me to switch over if I upgrade any phone and lose my unlimited plan.  I don't like being force into another plan that I think is not good enough but I should be able to retain what I have as a plan and be happy with it. They said I don't have the option to keep my plan to upgrade.  I would consider another carrier but none has a better data network than Verizon.  I think i should be able to upgrade and keep my plan as is if I like my plan as is.  Should not be force to change anything on my plan.  BS Verizon for trying to force consumers into changing their plan into something that they don't want.

Paying full price should not be an option just to keep my plan as is.  That full price is open to everyone not just as an option

I use T-Mobile and the Lg Google Nexus 4, and while I am happy with the phone, I am not overly happy with T-Mobile. I have always used Verizon and only switched because I didn't like Big Red's Share Everything plans and wanted unlimited data, which I have with T-Mobile. However, T-Mobile uses the GSM network and that particular network struggles to penetrate buildings. Also, as is well known by all, Verizon's network is much more reliable and extensive. I made a mistake and will be switching back to Big Red as soon as I get the $650 that it will cost to do so.

 marklong81973 T-Mo uses the 2100 MHz band primarily. It has nothing to do with GSM/CDMA technology, only frequency. For example, AT&T uses 850/1900 MHz, with 850 penetrating buildings great.

 Haloruler64  I've actually thought of calling T-Mobile because of their lack of towers in 205/580/5 Triangle. Not because of service but because I'd like to make some extra moolah. I was thinking of offering my roof for a repeater. turns out residentially zoned areas are never considered and, even if it did, my house, by commonly accepted standards, needs to be seated higher than the rest of the area. Oh well.
