Microsoft Office Coming To iOS And Android Early 2013
Microsoft Office for smartphones has been rumored and leaked many times, yet Microsoft has remained quiet about the situation. They’ve denied a few leaks and refused to comment so far. However, we have another leak here of Office for iOS.
It’ll be a free app for viewing documents, supporting Word Excel, and PowerPoint documents. To get editing functionality, you’ll need an Office 365 subscription, meaning you’ll have to shell out some money. That of course is fair, as any good office suite costs a bit of money and is worth buying. However, it won’t be meant to replace the desktop Office suite, as some mobile apps are.
A press release from Microsoft in the Czech Republic has revealed that the Office Mobile app for iOS will be released around early March with the Android version following in May. When asked for comment, a Microsoft spokesperson only said “Office will work across Windows Phone, iOS and Android.” I guess they’re keeping as much secrecy as possible. Anyway, who’s excited to have Office on their Android phone?

For all the belly-aching and mud-slinging I've done toward Microsoft products, I've got to admit that now I've used a number of other products, Microsoft really does have the best solution for word processing and spreadsheets. Google's spreadsheet has some very powerful functions but on a smartphone, editing is not easy.
And while I'm being honest, two the most frustrating shortcomings about Android and it's keyboards (onscreen and physical) is the absence of cursor control, and, in browsers, the ability to switch between current page, last page and then back again. You can go back, but you cannot go "forward" again. The cursor control issue is especially notable when you want to go to in front of the very first character on a line, and then hit the backspace to take the whole line up one. Home, End, PageUp and PageDown would be very welcomed.
