Samsung has been fighting a battle with Apple for so long, it’s hard to remember a time before the patent disputes. Both sides have won some, both sides have lost some. Samsung has lost a significant amount here in the States, yet they are confident that their appeal will come through. It’s a tough time for all, we live in an age of war.
Samsung’s mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun had this to say: “The truth never lies. Without Samsung-owned wireless patents, it’s impossible for the Cupertino-based Apple to produce its handsets. As you know, Samsung is very strong in terms of portfolios of wireless patents.” A bold statement indeed.
Though the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled that Apple did not infringe on four Samsung patents, they are reviewing that ruling and Samsung could gain the upper hand if they win. If Apple is found to infringe when the decision is made in January, Samsung will have the power to ban iPhone and iPad sales in the US.
It’s a little sad to know that these battles are far from over. There is no end in sight, and we, the consumers, will have to suffer for it. Let’s just all hope for the best.
