For those who crave a phone with a physical keyboard, this might be the best device. Unfortunately, that isn’t really saying much. Keyboard phones are a rarity and they never really come well specced. The Stratosphere II is no exception, with a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, a 4″ Super AMOLED display, NFC, and Android 4.0.
Sure, most of the phone is pretty mid end. Android 4.0 shouldn’t really be on a phone released these days, since it’s over a year old by now. And there may not be an update anytime soon, if at all. But the 4″ Super AMOLED PenTile display should no longer be made. For mid end devices, qHD is now the minimum, when 720p is a huge step up and put in $100 phones like the Atrix HD. The fact that Samsung still uses low density PenTile Super AMOLED displays in what would otherwise be pretty good devices is upsetting. But I guess most people won’t really care.
The phone should launch in the coming weeks for $130 after a $50 mail in rebate. That’s an awfully high price for a device with a WVGA resolution. But if you want a phone with a keyboard on Verizon, it’s your best option. Who’s going to get this device? Tell us in the comments.
