Could The Rumored $99 Nexus Tablet Be On Its Way?

Rumors have been floating around for months now surrounding the $99 Nexus tablet, and despite ASUS denying those rumors, there always seems to be evidence that prove its very existence.

New benchmarks have just been released that points towards a new, budget tablet made by ASUS themselves. The new benchmarks say that the tablet will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on a 1GHz processor. There’s no word yet on how many cores the processor will have.

According to the benchmarks, the tablet will also feature a Mali 400 GPU, which is the same GPU that’s featured on Samsung’s Exynos 4 SoC’s. The display for this device is mediocre however, carrying only a 1024 x 552 (1024 x 600) resolution.  The model number for this ASUS tablet is ME172V which is similar to ASUS’s other 7-inch tablet, the ME171.

There have been rumors floating around that this device will support microSD cards, and if that’s true, then there’s a chance this tablet may not carry the Nexus name.

Despite not carrying the Nexus branding however, this device still looks to be a budget device from ASUS. With the low price tag combined with ASUS’s huge rep from doing such a great job with the Nexus 7, this tablet might have enough buzz to become a huge success.

What do you think? Are you in the market for a $99 budget tablet?
