Google Play Services has received an update to v2.0 and it brings some really cool new features. First and most importantly, there is a new Maps API. It allows for Android apps to access more features of Google Maps, like vector-based maps, 3D buildings, indoor maps, and more. You can get the same experience as the Maps app in an app that decides to implement it. This is a big move for Google, as it opens competition.
Also, they have a new Photo Sphere API. Photo Sphere and the XMP format used for the photo data are both open, so anyone can integrate these tools into their apps. Hopefully we’ll see Photo Sphere viewers being built into apps like Google+ and QuickPic. If you’re interested in learning more, here is a somewhat lengthy video on the subject.
