Google Sound Search Now Available In The Play Store

Google Sound Search (also known as Google Ear) isn’t the most widely known of Google’s services, but that doesn’t make it any the less interesting. For those unfamiliar, it listens to a song being played, then links it to Google Play Music accordingly. Shazam-like service has been in Google’s back pocket for quite awhile now, but many haven’t had an easy way to access it. That changes today, as an app (with widget) for the service has made its way officially to Google Play.

Previously the widget had only been available to select devices, but it is now open to any device running Android 4.0 or higher. That’s right, if your phone is on Ice Cream Sandwich or better, you can now use the Shazam alternative. There is a catch however, as it seems that it’s currently only available through a direct link such, and only in the US. Hopefully Google will smooth things out, so we’ll always know that it’s J Biebs on the radio.

Hit the Google Play source to grab the app now, and be sure to let us know how the service is in the comments below.

Just downloaded and tested over 12 songs. All were recognized within 5 seconds. It's a great free widget.

I feel like I am missing out ALLOT being still on Gingerbread.

I know the feeling DroidBoy11, I have had the original HTC EVO since a month after it's release and obviously it is never going to upgrade beyond Gingerbread. Although, I recently picked up a Nexus 7 and now that I can see everything I have been missing on my phone it's so much worse. I'm upgrading in January, then I shall be done with Gingerbread and on to bigger and better things.
