There are reports going around that HTC is suspending the development of newer smartphone models and cutting down Q1 smartphone shipments.
The reports come from Digitimes’s industry sources who say,
“HTC has suspended development of a number of new models for 2013, reducing the visibility of its orders for handset components.”
HTC is also projected to only see smartphone shipments rise 10-15% in Q1 of 2013, compared to the 20-30% growth it experienced in Q1 of 2012.
Industry watchers predict that HTC will have a rough time in the beginning of 2013. This is in part due to HTC’s Windows 8 smartphones, specifically the HTC 8X, which have not been doing so well in the market as they had hoped.
HTC has been in the rough for a while now, and with more people opting for Samsung’s high-end devices, HTC is left out in the cold. Maybe the HTC M7 will be enough to bring consumers back to HTC. It’d be nice to see Samsung have some decent competition in 2013.
For now, we’ll have to wait to see what happens. HTC has yet to comment on this issue.
