It seems that both Google and LG were taken aback by the popularity of the Nexus 4. It’s understandable, no other Nexus phone has been very popular, so even to me it came as a shock that the Nexus 4 sold out so quickly. CNET UK talked to LG about the crazy Nexus 4 situation of it selling out so fast every time it’s sold, and LG had a few interesting things to say.
Andy Coughlin, LG UK’s head of mobile, said that the Nexus 4 has “proven extremely popular” (we can tell) and that it was the insane demand that is causing shortages. He also said that “LG supplies product quantities against partners’/customers’ forecasts” and “demand via the Play Store has been very high in this instance.” They are also “working closely with Google to ensure that those who wish to purchase a handset are able to do so.” It’s a fairly generic response but it confirms that no one really expected the Nexus 4 to sell so well.
