Native Facebook App Is Live In The Play Store, Not As Great As You’d Think

The long promised native Facebook app is finally out. Facebook traded the HTML-based interface for a native one, increasing the speed of the app considerably. Facebook claims that things will load at least twice as fast now, and iOS users can attest to that when their native app came out (a long time ago).

However, it might not be as great as you think. Even on a Jelly Bean device, it isn’t particularly smooth. Sure, it’s faster, but it is still choppy and not very well designed. I do think they could have done a much better job on it. But it’s an improvement and a step in the right direction. Check your Android device for Play Store updates, and if it doesn’t show up, just search for the app. It should have an update button. If you don’t have the link or don’t want to touch your phone, hit the source link for the Play Store page. Tell us what your experiences with the new app are like.

Very quick, but a little herky-jerky when attempting to update data (on WiFi) on my GSII running CM9.

Works pretty great on my N4! Smooth and a lot faster than the previous HTML based version.

It's WAAAAY better in terms of speed, but the choppiness is a nuisance and sometime the thumbnails don't show right away. Hopefully they'll get that all ironed out, I won't complain too much because at least it's usable now.
