Samsung Official 3,000 mAh Extended Battery For Galaxy S III Revealed

Despite the Samsung Galaxy S III shipping with a very respectable 2,100 mAh battery, it isn’t enough for some people. And there are plenty of options for extended batteries on the market, but we hadn’t seen any official ones. However, MobileFun posted a listing for an official Samsung extended battery kit. It comes with a beefy 3,000 mAh battery, almost the same size as the Galaxy Note II stock battery, and a new battery door to fit it in the phone.

But why get this over off brand batteries? First of all, you’ll be getting a legitimate battery door with the right finish and Samsung logos. It’ll match your phone. Second, it has the NFC contacts most custom covers lack, meaning NFC will function perfectly with this kit. And of course, it is official Samsung, which should speak for itself.

The kit comes in either white or blue and will set you back $64.99 including VAT. It’s a bit pricey but the matching battery door should be worth the money. Will any of you be getting this kit? Is it worth the premium? Tell us in the comments!

There is absolutely no way I would pay that amount of money for that battery. I currently have a 2800 m a age extended battery, and I can hardly tell any difference at all. To be honest with you, I think these extended batteries are just a waste of money. Yes, you may get some additional time.

just curious, but where exactly are these "NFC contacts that most custom covers lack"?  Looking at my OEM battery cover on my phone, I don't see any contacts at all, it is all plastic.  I know that the antenna for NFC is embedded in the battery itself, and a lot of third party batteries are missing the antenna, but there are soem third party batteries (Q-Cell brand is in my phone right now) that have the antenna built in and NFC works just fine with them.

uabtodd it's more like a NFC signal booster than an actual antenna. aka, less shielding in the right places where the antennae actually are.

Would live to get it. Will have to wait for a slightly cheaper price though.

If they could make a extended battery that doesn't make the phone bigger I would probably get it in a heartbeat.

NathanAker This...is not possible without breaking physics lol. :)

I wouldn't mind picking this up however the downside is that my otterbox case probably wouldn't work and I would have to buy another case to protect my phone. Not to mention, that's if anyone even makes a case that would work with this battery.

I rarely purchase third party batteries... Call me paranoid, but I don't trust them. So this battery would be a godsend and something I'd surely buy for times I think I might need a little more juice. Hopefully it doesn't add too much more heft to the phone. Though knowing you're getting a matching back is almost worth the admission price alone :-)

I wonder if my Rock case will still fit.
