Samsung Sues Apple Over Notification Center After Patents Were Granted To Google

Despite having the same (and amazing) notification system from the start, Google has only been granted patents for it last month. I guess Samsung jumped at the chance, because they are now suing Apple in South Korea over Notification Center. Notification Center is Apple’s new notification system, introduced in 2011 in the software update iOS5, many have said it is a direct ripoff of the Android system. I would agree, to be honest.

There is no other information available on the lawsuit at the moment, but we’re excited to see how this turns out. The Notification Center is something that’s hard to prove unique, though we aren’t sure if it would be similar enough to win a lawsuit. But it’ll make for a good drama indeed. What do you guys think? Did Apple rip off Android notifications? And do they deserve to be sued for it? Tell us in the comments!

Classic inability of Apple to innovate it's a sad conclusion they cry for ever little thing then turn around and do this. It should have happened a long time ago but better late than never. Samsung will win this very easily.

At least Samsung is taking them to court for a Legitimate case rather than a flimsy "round corners" feature. Apple got caught and should be hard.

It is definitely a ripoff. Android notification is the best and unique. Apple the thief should pay

I was waiting for the day Crapple was finally gonna get sued for that notification center.

everone knows android had it first, it only took apple 5 software updates that i needed it.

The innovation is not the notification center, rather is the swipe down action that brings you a sliding window. Afterwards, you can display whatever you want in that window. Therefore, google stolen the idea from the developer of SBSETTINGS in jailbroken iPhone. Also, Apple hired Peter Hajas, the developer of Mobilenotifier and mostly likely licensed and used the source code of the application which is under the free BSD license. Therefore, Apple has an escape from lawsuit.

No. That's not the innovation itself. Rather, it IS the notification center. The slide down feature has been on Android since it was conceived. Stole the idea from the developer of SBSettings? Get your facts straight.

@Majeds Get your facts straight dude.

Cupertino offers better judicial payoffs so I doubt anything will come of it.

What makes this any more sensible than any of Apple's lawsuits?  iOS was in dire need of a functional notification system; what else was Apple supposed to do?

I wish these corporations would stop quarreling over minuscule bits of OS functionality and just focus on making good software.  Android and iOS are so inherently different that the little UI traits they share are pretty negligible.

@MdXMaxX Well, yeah it's just like how Apple is suing for stupid shit, but isn't that the point? Samsung isn't going to sit around and be fired at and not fire back. I thought that was pretty obvious though...

I hate to say that apple ripped off Google, lets just say Android had notifications first and Apple thought they should too. I believe in fair use of patents and to be honest both sides are doing it to some extent. This lawsuit is exactly what Apple is doing to everyone else and turnaround is fair play.

I am hoping for lawsuits like this come up against Apple so they can see the stupidity of it and start working with each other. No one is losing sales over what the other is doing, but Apple is spending more money on litigation and R&D, so that is just bad for the consumer.

True about excessive litigation. I know someone closely who is an Apple attorney and you'll be abhauled about the stupid shit Apple wants to sue over: stuff that you did not even hear. @Allallon

i was waiting for this lawsuit for years and they finally did it! payback's a b**** ain't it apple?

And do they deserve to be sued for it?  Ya darn skippy they deserve to be sued!

Yes, they are 'stealing' innovation. Screw Apple!
