US Patent Office Invalidates Apple Multitouch Patent, Won’t Affect Case Against Samsung

I think many people will agree that Apple owns quite a few ridiculous patents, and many patents far to general to have been rightfully granted. Well, the US Patent and Trademark Office has invalidated a multitouch patent owned by Apple, a few months after they invalidated their rubber-banding patent. Patent 7,479,949 was described as “Touch screen device, method, and graphical user interface for determining commands by applying heuristics.”

Now to put this in the perspective of what is definitely the biggest lawsuit case in the tech world this year, the rubber-banding patent was involved with the Samsung trial, but this one is not. However, it is a patent Apple used against HTC and Motorola, so this invalidation could do some good there. What do you guys think? Was it fair for the patent to be invalidated? Or should Apple have the right to own it? Tell us in the comments!
