AT&T Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Update Now Available As An OTA

While all the carriers were rolling out their Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III over the air, AT&T decided to make the software update Kies only. This means that, to update their devices, people had to download Samsung software to their computer, hook their phones up, and perform the update there. Sure, we did it, but we’re the techies. Most people with a Galaxy S III probably didn’t even know about this. Big updates like this being Kies-only is never a good idea.

However, AT&T has finally released the update in OTA form. Now everyone will be notified of the update and will receive the wonderful changes of Jelly Bean. You’ll have to be on WiFi to download the update, but it’s still available to everyone instead of a few select people. If you hadn’t updated, are you going to do so now? Tell us in the comments!

I'm not sure why, but i got a chuckle from your "tech" observation. I'll still have to help my wife with the install on her phone. Beyond playing games and texting, she lost.

kanoneyez Is that not more lack of will than cluelessness? Updates install after pressing "OK" three times and it's just ready. A lot of people simply do not want to deal with it. It has nothing to do with cluelessness, really. Your wife and my girlfriend and many others are like this. OTAs are so easy. Other stuff is different of course, and help is needed sometimes.

Haloruler64 LOL. Never intended to imply my wife was clueless. She is a very adept business woman. It is just that when it comes to using menu-systems, she really does find it challenging. I can't tell you how often I've told her to access the "Settings" menu on her phone. She can never remember where that is at. I think that is an excellent opportunity to the development teams out there--what could be done to help people that are intimidated by menus?

kanoneyez Of course, I understand. I do think that cases like this are often just people not set on remembering, not that it's so hard. It takes a bit of will, and it's understandable for people not to have that will. But yes, menu systems are confusing. Android, with no menu button, is headed in a better direction. In a sense, iOS got rid of most menus and simplified things.
