Lockscreen widgets were introduced in the Android 4.2 update to the Nexus devices, and they work great on tablets. You turn on the screen, and you get a full widget at the top with multiple pages. However, it’s not so great on a phone. Turning on the screen shows you a 4×1 version of the widget, with the rest of the screen having the unlock gesture area. What if you want to be greeted with a full widget? It isn’t really possible on stock Android.
However, anything is possible if CyanogenMod has anything to do with it. They introduced a new feature to start the widgets maximized, so you will be greeted with all the information you want. It’s a useful option for some people, and it has now been merged into the latest nightly!
