It looks like GameStick ran into some bad luck (or its decisions finally caught up to it, but we dearly hope not). The GameStick page has been removed from Kickstarter due to an intellectual property dispute, and they have 30 days to resolve the dispute before the page is deleted completely. If they do manage to resolve it, everything will be back to normal, and the money won’t have to be raised again. While we don’t know what happened, the company behind GameStick has posted this statement to their Facebook page:
Hi everyone, we’ve just become aware of this intellectual property dispute on kickstarter. We apologize for any confusion this may cause our backers, supporters and fans. We are looking into this immediately and we will update you as soon as possible.
Hopefully this will be resolved. Though I don’t think this product will change much in the gaming industry, I do want it to succeed. It’s a nice concept. We’ll bring you info as it comes along, but in the meantime, share your thoughts on the situation in the comments section.
Update: Thankfully, the reason for the GameStick being taken down has been released. It is not any problem with their design, but their promotional video. It featured a game that they did not have permission to use, so the entire page was taken down. This shouldn’t need more than a quick edit to the video to be put back up on Kickstarter. We’re glad to see everything work out just fine!
