Vizio Plans To Release 5-Inch 1080p And 4.7-Inch 720p Devices In China – Hopes To Enter US Market In The Future

Vizio unveiled two new smartphones at CES today. The first one being a 5-inch 1080p device and the second being a 4.7-inch 720p device.

Here are the specs for each:

Vizio 5-inch device:

  • 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor (unspecified)
  • 2GB RAM
  • MicroSD card slot
  • Dual SIM slots

Vizio 4.7-inch device:

  • 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 resolution display
  • 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • MicroSD card slot
  • Dual SIM slots

The Verge states that the 5-inch display “looks so good it almost feels fake”. They also commented that other than the display, the 5-inch model is pretty generic. The 4.7-inch on the other hand has a lightly-textured matte white plastic unibody which feels ceramic.

Both phones are capable of running on AT&T’s 3G network. Vizio’s CEO Matt McRae plans on selling this device directly to consumers in China. After the device gains popularity in China, McRae hopes to come back to the US market to negotiate deals with major carriers.

The devices sound great, especially with the high-end displays, but Vizio needs to competitively price these device in order to get users interested in them. I wouldn’t doubt that that’s the direction they will take because Vizio is well known for their competitive and low TV prices.

Would you consider buying a Vizio Android smartphone?
