I’ll admit it, I’m a little behind the times. The last Samsung device I’ve used was the Samsung Fascinate. That was only a couple years ago, which as well know, translates to eons in the world of technology. Imagine how excited I was to take a look at the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Express. While it may not be as well known as the Note II and the Galaxy SIII, the Samsung Galaxy Express is no slouch for a mid-range device.
The first thing I noticed was the look of the device. It is apparent the Galaxy Express stays consistent with other Samsung models with the lock button on the right side and volume rockers over on the left side of the device. Finally, the microUSB port is found on bottom of the device. I’ll go over the aesthetics of the Galaxy Express more in my full review.
The Galaxy Express sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait Qualcomm processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The 1.5GHz processor provides enough horsepower to make transitions between screens very smooth and quick. I didn’t find any noticeable lag when switching between my applications. The responsiveness of this device should make any user happy.
Important on any device is the display. The Galaxy Express has a 4.5″, 480×800, Super AMOLED Plus display capable of the 207 Pixels Per Inch(ppi). The resolution may not be full HD as found in many of the newer devices, but personally I felt it looked good. Fonts appeared crisp and easy to read and colors were vibrant.
Usually when I get a device, I’ll change the default launcher to Nova Launcher. However, to accurately examine the Galaxy Express, I submersed myself into the Touchwiz interface that is standard on Samsung devices. The interface took a little getting used to, but overall it seems to be intuitive and easy to use. I’ll discuss my overall experience with Touchwiz in my full review.
There you have it, my initial impressions of the Galaxy Express. I have to say that based on my experience so far, I am pleased with device and would recommend it to friends and family.
