HTC Plans On Releasing Two New Devices Shortly After The Launch Of The HTC M7

HTC M7 Housing Has Leaked - Confirms DROID DNA Like Design 6

It looks like HTC is planning on releasing two more smartphones shortly after the HTC M7 in order to make up for its huge lack of profits in 2012. The two new devices won’t be high-end devices, and are meant to aim at the mid to lower-level market.

The first device is codenamed the HTC M4. It will feature the following specs:

  • 4.3-inch 720p display
  • 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor (the specific processor is unknown)
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 2GB RAM
  • 13MP rear-facing camera
  • 1.6MP front-facing camera
  • 1,700 mAh battery
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • A lighter version of Sense 5.0

The second device is codenamed the HTC G2 and it has no relation to the T-Mobile G2. It features the following specs:

  • 3.5-inch HVGA display
  • 1.0GHz single core processor
  • 4GB internal storage
  • 512MB RAM
  • 5MP rear-facing camera
  • 1,400 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The HTC M4 features some pretty great specs for a device that isn’t meant to be high-end.

The HTC G2, however, seems like it should have been left back in 2010. The device is said to be similar to the HTC Desire C, and will most likely not be making its way to the U.S.

What are your thoughts on these devices?

HTC has been curious in its deployment of phones. If the business plan is to flood the market with mid-range phones in the hopes that one stands out, the plan is flawed. I used to like HTC phones. I have one, for now. But I do not want to wade through a myriad of phones to find one that suits me, especially given the Sense 5.0 information (rumors).

I want a high end phone and the perpetuation of this business model drives me further away from selecting another HTC.
