If you’ve been looking for a biased and incorrect infographic, HTC delivers. Incorrect because they mistake their own DROID DNA for an Incredible and the EVO 4G for an EVO 3D, among other things. But the final part got our attention, saying that 2013 will bring “a new sound and camera experience.” This could be referencing the HTC M7, and we sure hope it is. We would love to see what HTC can come up with, we’re always up for a badass new camera. Rumor has it that the M7 will feature a 4.3 Ultrapixel camera, either using each of its three 4.3 megapixel layers for one color or oversampling each pixel.
However, they also decide to bash megapixel counts (further supporting the Ultrapixel rumor). Their entry for 2006 was “Pixel numbers for camera phones are increasing quickly. Picture quality does not improve.” Funny enough, the next entry is “The HTC Droid Incredible becomes Verizon’s first 8-megapixel camera phone.” It seems like they edited in these notes after the infographic was done, making funny contradictions like this.
Then they say “The iPhone 4S bulks up with an 8-megapixel camera – 1 year too late to be “Incredible!” I thought megapixels don’t matter? They don’t, the iPhone 4S camera was far superior to almost anything else on the market at the time.
And the final thing to keep your eye on is the statement about Nokia. They go back to their theory that megapixels don’t matter. It seems that they have forgotten that the 808 PureView does not take 41MP photos, but uses oversampling to create a far smaller photo with incredible quality. While HTC can make any statement they want, we’ll keep waiting until they introduce a phone camera that can match the 808 PureView. It doesn’t detract from our excitement to see their new plans for this new year. Are you guys excited?
