Mysterious Motorola X Phone To Bring Us A New Google Experience, We Cant Wait

motorolagoogle

We posted previously about Motorola hiring for the X Phone team and based on new information, this new phone could be revolutionary, completely changing the Google experience. A source close to the CTO of Telestra, Hugh Bradlow, believes that this new phone will be a “game changer” in the Android ecosystem.  Google apparently has been developing this device for an extended period of time and when it is launched, the software experience will be unlike anything we’ve seen before.

According to the source, the X Phone will debut at Google I/O in May, with a release date a couple months later in July.  Could Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie be this new software experience?

Tell us your thoughts.  Are you expecting a revolutionary change in the way you interact with your smartphone?  What features do you want to see implemented?

I don't think specs are important anymore. Not nearly as important as they used to be anyway. This would be great if it was some serious software changes that makes the system feel fresh again.

This news is exciting. While I haven't owned a Motorola phone since my very first phone with Tmobile back in 2004, this is something I would consider to buy if it's as revolutionary as they are claiming. Personally I feel the original Nexus One was a game changer because no phone came close to its specs and features. If Google can pull this off with the X and give us that same feeling then I will be all over it.

JBLmobileG1 Agreed! I'd be all over it as well. It could be even bigger than the Nexus One, being that this X phone is pretty much developed in house since Google owns Moto (Much like how Apple develops their own software/hardware) Hopefully it will be a yearly flagship device for Google.

The only negatives I see is that if the software is Key Lime Pie. We just got Jelly Bean not all that long ago. This will just worsen Android's fragmentation. The other problem is if this will actually be Google's yearly device. What will happen to the Nexus line? Will Google abandon it? Will it hurt Google's relationship with other OEMs?

In my perfect world, I would like it seen turn into a case where they both get equal love. I'd love to see the Nexus get the yearly treatment by different OEMs, and the X phone being the wholly-owned Google superphone product.
