Score One For The Little Guy, Apple Loses iPhone Trademark In Brazil

We all know how dominate Apple is in North America and in many other areas around the world, but sometimes it’s nice to see the little guy get a victory in court when facing the behemoth company.

Brazilian handset maker, Gradiente Eletronica, recently won a trademark battle over the Cupertino giant.  Back in 2000, Gradiente Eletronica registered the name “iphone” and the name is incorporated in, ironically enough, it’s Android-based iphone Neo One device.  Authorities in Brazil have now ruled that Gradiaente Electronica can continue to use the word “iphone” on it’s devices.  BBC is reporting that Apple will appeal this decision, which I’m sure we would all expect them to do.

This company went bankrupt and only last year returned to market. Apple is claiming that they haven't been using the name for more than 5 yrs. Gradiente said that they're are willing to sell the name to Apple. Apple just want this for free. As a Brazilian, but trying to be fair i think that Gradiente is only trying to get some media. They dont really care about the name.

Taking that in mind since it was registered in 2000 apple should be paying them to be able to use the iphone name internationally, take it to apple to think they own something someone else came up and registered it years before them
