Samsung Trying To Beat Apple To Wristwatch Market

The next big thing seems to be smart watches, a growing trend among enthusiasts and one begging to be released to the general public. However, there is no doubting that smart watches are still in their infancy. The few true smart watches we have seen have been buggy, battery life was terrible, and a few have been unusable. Then there is the Pebble, a watch that really blew people away with its simplicity and usefulness. It lasts anywhere from 5 to 7 days when paired with your phone through Bluetooth. So what’s next?

The big boys are tasked with making the best smart watch they can. Those familiar with Apple claim that they have 100 designers working on a “wristwatch-like device,” while Samsung straight up admits it. Vice President of Samsung Mobile Lee Young Hee says,

We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.

While we still no nothing about price, release date, or even a single feature any of these watches would have, we’re excited to see what comes of this. Samsung, with their focus on software and usability in daily life, might genuinely make something special and useful (and hopefully cheap). Or the world may fall for the next iWatch. We’ll see, but the race is on, and we all have free tickets.
