Pantech is slowly growing into a big player in the Android world, but they have quite a way to go. Starting off with budget phones, Pantech was mostly relegated to the bargain bin. In fact, some of their feature phones were pretty poor quality. However, moving up to the Android world did them a lot of good. They started making surprisingly decent devices for the money. Slowly moving up into the mid end and even high end markets, they were creating cheaper phones with lots of value.
Their next device may be a true contender to the two biggest Android phones right now, the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S 4. According to My Drivers, the Vega Iron will have the fairly common 5 inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 600 quad core at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, 13 megapixel camera, and a 2,150 mAh battery. There are some pretty nice specs, even though the battery could be a tad bigger. It’ll also launch with the not-so-new Android version of 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
It’ll be going with a squared off shape reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia series, according to the teaser. At 136.3 x 67.7 x 8.8mm and 154g, it’ll be narrower than the Galaxy S 4, meaning its bezel is going to be impressively thin. But it’s also thicker by almost a millimeter.
The event will be on the 18th in South Korea, at 11 AM their time. Hopefully they’ll unveil something special, instead of another quad core, 5 inch 1080p phone. Would you consider a high end Pantech phone if it was at a competitive price? Tell us in the comments!
