Today some interesting goodies were uploaded to Google+ and spread to the world as Google is hard at work bringing us updates and new projects. First off, we got a new shot and further confirmation of what the new Google Play Store will look like. Last month, we learned about some of the new features and looks for the Play Store version 4.0. We don’t really see anything new in regards to the new Play Store. What we can observe with this screenie, which was uploaded by YouTube employee Eileen Rivera, is that Google is “dogfooding” and allowing the Google employees to use the new play store in preparation for all of use to use. You can tell this by the funny Play Store icon in the upper left corner of the app screen shot. I’d offer you a link to Eileen’s Google+ post, but it’s already been pulled down. Thanks to the wonderful interwebz, we still have the image for your enjoyment and marvel.
Second, thanks to a fellow Google product user, another confirmation has been found that Google’s new unified chat service will in fact be named Babel. Patric Dhawaan got this notice shown above while cleaning out his inbox this morning: “Because one or more part of a Babel chat, these messages are still available in other Babel chat applications.” Kudos to him for his eye for detail. Still no official word from Google, but they’re not doing the best job keeping it a secret. I myself am just glad that Babel looks like its REALLY coming.
We expect to get official word on these updates and products at Google I/O in May. I myself and super excited for I/O, and these glimpses of what we’ll be getting are feeding my excitement. But you never know, they may release one or both of these things early. What do you all think? Are you guys excited? Are these signs of these coming sooner than later?
