We’ve been looking forward to hearing more about NVIDIA’s Project Shield for a long time, but it’s been fairly quiet. If you don’t remember, Project Shield is NVIDIA’s attempt at a mobile gaming console, complete with the new Tegra 4 processor and a full controller layout. However, today we find out that Project Shield has dropped the “Project” moniker and will be releasing very soon!
In a huge surprise, NVIDIA managed to keep the price of the console down, and it’ll be releasing at a low $349. For the price, you’re getting a 720p 5 inch display, a powerful Tegra 4 processor, and pure stock Android Jelly Bean. And not only can you play normal Android games, like the pre-loaded Sonic 4 Episode II and Expendable: Rearmed, you can also stream Steam games (that is, if you have an NVIDIA GPU that’s a GTX 650 or better). Pre-orders will begin in a matter of days, May 20th, while release will be sometime in June. It’s coming up soon, and we’re very excited! Are you?
