I know what you’re thinking. “All Samsung phones are camera phones! They all have cameras!” Yes, you’re right, but they’re dinky little phone sensors. According to information gathered by SamMobile, Samsung is planning to make a true “camera phone” with a bigger camera sensor. The Galaxy S 4 Zoom will have a 16MP sensor, not unlike the one in the Galaxy Camera (they aren’t said to be the same sensor). And according to the name, we can assume that it also has a zoom lens, which would be fairly unique in a smartphone.
Unfortunately, the “Galaxy S 4″ part of the name is very misleading. The device will have a 4.3″ Super AMOLED display with a qHD 960×540 resolution, 8GB of storage with a microSD slot, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (no ac unlike the S 4), A-GPS, and Jelly Bean. The processor and RAM have not yet been decided on, but ti could be dual core or quad core. Not a very high end device, unlike the Galaxy Camera, but it’ll at least have phone functions.
It should be coming out during the summer, around June or July. We’re not sure how a product like this will do in the market, considering its less than stellar hardware. But maybe some people will dig the camera features without needing a high end phone. What’s your opinion on the matter? Can a device like this succeed? Will you consider getting one? Does it need to be better specced?
