Android gaming consoles have really exploded in popularity in the last year, arguably all starting with the OUYA. Now Mad Catz wants to get into the Android powered console wars, as they have introduced the M.O.J.O. console. We’re not sure if we needed another one, but if Mad Catz does it right, it might propel this market much further.
In terms of the specs currently released, it’s a pretty average console. It will have two USB ports, HDMI, 16GB of storage with a microSD slot, and built in WiFi. Other specs were not given, so we don’t know about the internals of this device. However, looking at the press release, we could assume a few things.
They mention that you can play the games you play on your phone and tablet at no additional charge, so Google Play support may be included (which would be awesome). They also mentioned the Tegra Zone, but some rumors have been stating that it comes with a Tegra 4. If so, it’ll be the most powerful console of its kind, much more powerful than the Tegra 3 based OUYA.
The controller will be named the C.T.R.L.R which will be a standard Bluetooth 4.0 controller with what they claim to be “ultra-low latency” performance. We’ll see about that, but if that claim is true, then that’s even more reason to buy this device.
They also made mention of a “Mouse Mode” for the controller, which will allow the controller to emulate touch. We aren’t sure how this would work, but we can’t deny that it piqued our curiosity. Mad Catz could have something cool on their hands, so let’s see what they release this holiday season.

“M.O.J.O. is basically a supercharged smart phone with no screen that plugs into your flat screen TV to bring the living room experience to mobile gaming. M.O.J.O. is designed to interact seamlessly with our GameSmart controllers, mice, keyboards and headsets, in fact, the entire eco-system of gaming peripherals,” said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. “We also want M.O.J.O. to be a truly open platform. People are already comfortable buying games from Google Play™, Amazon®, TegraZone™ or any other retailer of their choice. They play those games on their phones and tablets already, and with M.O.J.O., they will be able to play them in the living room at no additional cost. The same approach applies to movies, music and any other digital media. Our focus is on providing the best hardware configured for performance, not forcing people to buy content from us.”
M.O.J.O. is expected to include the Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad. A true, console quality controller, theC.T.R.L.R features both Bluetooth® classic and Bluetooth Smart (4.0) technology which provides ultra-low latency, interference free gaming and exceptional battery life. In addition, the C.T.R.L.R features a ‘Mouse-Mode’ which allows gamers to enjoy many software titles originally designed for a touch interface in the comfort of their living room.
