JK Shin had said that there would be a mirrorless Galaxy Camera NX at the June 20th Premiere event, running Android and costing over 1000 euros. We were, of course, curious what the device would look like, and luckily, some press images have already leaked!
In these press images, you see a DSLR-like body with a nice, big touchscreen showing Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. And with apps like S Translator on the display and a transparent status bar, it seems to be 4.2.2! Rumors say that the display is 4.8″, it will have a quad core Exynos 4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8/16GB of storage, and a 20.3MP APS-C sensor (APS-C is the size of sensor they use in low to mid end DSLRs). Pretty beefy.
In these press shots, you can see a selection of three lenses. There is the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 we’re all so accustomed to seeing, an 18-200mm zoom lens, and what seems to be an 85mm f/1.4 (macro?) lens. All three have optical image stabilization, so I have to say I’m impressed.
This seems like a high end DSLR infused with Android. We know a lot of people were disappointed by the original Galaxy Camera because its image quality, though good, was not great. Maybe this will please some of the photography purists who want to keep connected while shooting professional photos. I personally like it, but what do you think?
