We were all expecting a new 7 inch Nexus tablet at Google I/O, considering that the Nexus 7 had come out at last year’s Google I/O and it’s a year old now, which is ancient for technology. However, we got nothing. Even the white Nexus 4 was not announced, because Google decided to focus on developers more than releasing hardware. However, we may be seeing a new tablet from Google and ASUS soon.
A 7 inch tablet called the ASUS K009 went through Bluetooth certification, looking a lot like the older Nexus 7. But the difference is that it was stated to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad core processor, something that has been rumored for a while. A departure from NVIDIA chips? We’re not sure how to feel.
The FCC confirms the existence of the K009, but also calls it a Nexus device. It reveals that there will be two cameras on the device, which would be pretty cool, along with a 4,000 mAh battery and what looks to be an LTE radio. However, the strange thing is that it states the device will have an APQ-8064, which is a Snapdragon S4 Pro, not a 600. We don’t know what this means, but we’ll find out soon, won’t we? Will you be buying the next Nexus 7? Leave a comment!
