Posts are published with anticipated release dates. When those aren’t available, posts are dated in what is thought to be a likely release window. The list is, by nature, always evolving as new information becomes available. If you find an error or lacking/outdated information, click on the “Submit News” link in the main menu, and let me know! This format also allows you to post comments on any device that you think potential buyers should know. Please, tell us all what you think in the comments for each entry.

US Cost: Originally $179 on 2-year contract, $399 outright. Now discontinued by T-Mobile, $49.99 from Amazon.com with contract (current as of 03/07/10).

US Plan: $24.95 data plan required. $34.95 with unlimited text. Voice plan not included.

Notes: Black keyboard easier to see than the silver keys found in the US white and bronze models. The European white model’s keyboard is legible. Memory limitation may mean limited updates. This was the first Android device.

Laid to rest on Jan 16th, 2009 due to screen resolution incompatibility with early versions of Android. Motorola’s Heron and Lancaster suffered the same fate. HTC’s Tattoo would be the first QVGA Android to make it to market.

Notes: First to feature HTC’s custom Sense UI and social networking hooks. Various streams of data can be aggregated in one plce; such as multiple email accounts from one person all showing up as new messages from that contact – tweets and FB updates as well. Oleophobic screen, teflon coating on some colors. Can run on EDGE w/ T-Mo US, but no 3G. Forerunner to HTC’s Legend.

Set to launch on AT&T on August 3rd, 2009, Lancaster’s QVGA screen kept it off the shelves, just like the Motorola Heron and Kogan Agora.

HTC’s Tattoo was the first QVGA Android to launch successfully.

US Plan: Unlimited data starting at $69.99.

Notes: First US Hero, missing the distinctive chin found on the European version. Ships with software updates designed to improve speed. Launched just after the introduction of Sprint’s Any Mobile, Any Time plan, which allows unmetered calls to all mobile phones.

Notes: First phone to feature Motorola’s custom version of Android, MotoBlur. It integrates social functions into Android features and includes widgets. MotoBlur also entails custom UI work. Will be called Dext in other markets.

Notes: GSM/HSPA version has cleared FCC – possibly for Canadian carrier, Rogers Wireless. Will launch overseas as the Milestone. First phone to ship with Android 2.0 and Google’s turn-by-turn navigation. Also the first in the Droid series on VZW.
