We've been talking about what went on at Google's Android event all day; There was the unveiling of the web-based Android Market, tons on Honeycomb tutorials, game demos, and more. It seems like just yesterday Google released Gingerbread, well that was almost two months ago - that's years in Google Time. Google will be officially unveiling Android's latest version - Honeycomb - this Wednesday, at a press event in their Mountain View campus. The event starts at 10AM PST/ 1PM EST and will be streamed live on YouTube at youtube.com/android.... Read more » Honeycomb SDK highlights go live
It's official - Google has released everything you need to know about Honeycomb on an "Android 3.0 Platform Highlights" page located on the Android Developers website. Main points of general awesomeness: 3D graphic support, dual-core processor support, and of course a major overhaul to the entire UI of the OS. Other noteworthy highlights include: UI... The forking of Android into phone and tablet varieties--versions 2.x for the former, 3.x for the latter--is a bit of a strange move. With tablets launching in Q1 running Android 3.0, Honeycomb, and phones likely launching in Q3 running Android 2.4, Ice Cream Sandwich, consumers are very likely to get confused about version numbers, code names, release chronology, and... In a recent talk between PCMag and T-Mobile's chief marketing officer Cole Brodman, it has been confirmed that the Samsung Vibrant will finally be updated to Froyo (2.2) starting tomorrow, January 21st. The update will work just like the rest of T-Mobile's updates have - It will roll out in waves with hopes of finishing distribution as soon as possible, while... T-Mobile has revealed a product updates page for their forthcoming Honeycomb tablet, LG's G-Slate. Drop in your name, email, and check a couple of boxes, and you'll be set to receive email updates when more information about the G-Slate is available. I'm guessing that T-Mobile customers, as per the standard, will get dibs on pre-orders and then first shipments.... Read more » Google Music sync coming with Android 2.4
While I still think the creation of an Android fork could be confusing for consumers and a harbinger of further fragmentation in the world of Android devices, there is one aspect of Android 2.4 that I would love to see on hot new phones like Samsung's Nexus S, ASAP, regardless of version conventions: Google Music Sync. We've been hearing hints about Google's... Read more » Ice Cream Sandwich likely announced at Google I/O, but is it Android 2.4?
Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich. Yes, the next release of Android is going to be called Ice Cream Sandwich rather than Ice Cream, as the oversized statue of a bowl of ice cream would be indistinguishable from frozen yogurt on the Googleplex front lawn. Jason Kincaid from TechCrunch got it straight from the horse's mouth... Read more » Sony Ericsson: No more updates for the X10
When it comes to being the king of delayed pushed back completely botched updates, Sony Ericsson and Samsung have been duking it out for some time now. Samsung says they are working very hard to bring Froyo to their Galaxy S series devices, and considering today's newest revelation on Sony Ericsson's update schedule, I think we have a winner. Android... Read more » Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc running Gingerbread 2.4
Any confusion about whether Android 2.4 or Android 3.0 would be the tablet made-over Honeycomb was eliminated yesterday by product announcements from multiple OEMs and by an official Honeycomb teaser video. 2.3 is Gingerbread, and 3.0 is Honeycomb. But what we see above is an image from Tweakers.net revealing Android 2.4 running on Sony Ericsson's new Xperia Arc.... Read more »
