US Dell Streaks could jump 2.1, go straight for the Froyo
Lionel Menchaca, Chief Blogger for Dell, recently responded (via Twitter) to a Streak fan who was asking questions about Android versions while anxiously awaiting his Dell shipment. The answer? "Honest answer is that it's complicated. From the info I have, current plan in the US is to go right to Froyo. #dellstreak" So there you have it. Nothing concrete,... Dell is now selling their 5" screen havin' tablet/phone, Streak, in their online shop for $299 subsidized by AT&T on contract and for $549 free and clear. Well, perhaps "free" isn't the appropriate term, as an outright purchase will get you a carrier locked Streak with no frequency band support for T-Mobile 3G. Nevertheless, this gadget is garnering a great deal of... Read more » HTC pushes Froyo OTA for those that jumped the gun
It hasn't even been two weeks since an HTC Froyo update was leaked - ahead of the official update by two days. And yet, HTC has already made good on their promise to bring early adopters back into the officially supported fold. That's right, not only did they take care of us but they did so just ten days after the leak... and with an OTA. When HTC said they were... Read more » Fix for EVOs with unofficial Froyo update
We know that HTC is working to get less patient EVO owners (like myself) back "on track" after we prematurely installed an unofficial update that we thought was the final, would-be, OTA Froyo package. Here's to hoping that their official solution isn't exclusive to Windows users utilizing HTC Sync. For those who didn't learn their lesson the first time around, an... Here's some news I am very happy to report. A forum thread dedicated to Echange 2003 problems experienced by DROID X users became a whole lot more interesting today when a Motorola rep explained that a fix was on the way...as part of the 2.2 bump headed for the phone in about four weeks: "Some Droid X users are experiencing an issue using Exchange 2003 email.... I'm hesitant to post on the early availability of Froyo updates after I jumped the gun on bringing 2.2 to my EVO, and it's just a well. Turns out that a file referred to by many as the Froyo update for DROID X was nothing more than the flash for the original DROID. I'm glad I didn't make a video about that one. More surprizing is that the FRG01B OTA that hit a few... Read more » HTC’s Froyo OTA for EVO floating around
I've heard several reports from DroidDog readers (and it's all over the Internet right now) that many EVO owners who tap on Settings > System Updates > Firmware Update are prompted to install the official Froyo bump, 3.26.651.6. Alas, I was one of those anxious chaps with ants in my pants that opted for an early install of an unofficial release (without actually... Read more » Installing the EVO update prematurely
Most of you have heard that the Android 2.2 update for HTC's EVO 4G was made available today for download and manual installation (it's all over our site), but you might have missed the update that came shortly after. Via their Twitter and Facebook pages, HTC publicly stated that the file (which was hosted on their site but has since been removed) is not the official... Read more » Froyo bomb for VZW?
According to a Verizon insider that tipped Android Spin, HTC and Motorola will be pushing 2.2 from August 6th to the 15th, hitting the DROID, DROID X, and Incredible when all is said and done. This also lends credence to the buzz that DROID 2 will ship with Froyo intact. The tipster went on to say that this information was not some internal rumor, but a stated... UPDATE: Although the pre-sale page is back now, it was briefly down with a message about sales beginning tomorrow. It's a bit of disappointing to know that Dell's 5" monster of a screen will be displaying Android 1.6 when it launches on AT&T very soon, but Dell's Lionel Menchaca reaffirmed that the gadget will see 2.2 by the end of the year (sooner if cookers...
