Samsung announced their Galaxy S Tab today at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany. The tablet will ship with Android 2.2, Froyo, and eventually be upgraded to Gingerbread, which most people have pegged as 3.0. As for the version following Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Samsung has said that it provides a different tablet experience and will power a next-gen tablet that the Korean OEM is currently working on.

The 380 gram Tab features a 7″ TFT-LCD display at 1024 X 600 pixels, a front-facing camera, 512MB RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage in addition to 32GB of SD support, and a 4,000mAh battery for up to 7 hours of movie playback. The Tab was unveiled as a media-centric device, and ships with a Readers’ Hub app that gives access to over 2 million e-reader titles.

LG has been workin‘ that Android as of late and the folks from Multimediawereld.be were on hand for LG’s Dealer Days 2010 in Brussels, where a new Android tablet called the Optimus Pad was unveiled.

Very little information is available at the moment, but the tablet (like pretty much every other Android tablet) is said to be a competitor for the iPad. Let’s just wait and see on that one, hmm?

When photos popped up of Samsung’s Galaxy tablet, Tab, bearing a white tape label with “CDMA” printed on it, the natural response was to look for the gadget on tablet-hungry Verizon (where it will be turning up) and to ask the question: “Will we see a GSM version?” The answer to that question comes today in the form of FCC filings that list the Tab’s GSM frequencies as 850, 900,1800, 1900, with HSDPA on board. Will AT&T be seeing the Tab before the end of the year? We should know on 9/02 or 9/16.

IFA, the world’s largest consumer electronics and home appliances trade show, announced today that Google’s Chairman of the Board and Cheif Executive Officer, Eric Schmidt, will deliver the closing keynote for the conference at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, September 7 in Berlin, Germany.

Considering that Samsung’s Tab will be announced at the beginning of the conference, and that Google’s next version of Android is designed to be very tablet-friendly, and considering that many suspect the Tab will run Android 3.0, there is reason to believe that Mr. Schmidt’s keynote could very well include – or revolve around – the announcement of Gingerbread. Then again, possibly not.
