At first glance, this may come off as slightly confusing, as this isn't the first time the Android Market has been rumored to hit 100,000 apps. Back in July, AndroidLib announced that the Market had reached the 100k mark. Shortly thereafter, the fine folks at Google took it upon themselves to set the confusion straight: The Market had really reached 70,000, not... Read more »
Paid Android apps have been severely limited in their user-base, and Google is slowly changing this. Today they're adding support for 20 more countries, making 32 countries total that can purchase paid apps and 29 that can develop them. On Google's Q1 2010 Earnings call, Google officially announced that there are 38,000 apps in the Android Market. Now, just about two weeks later, reports are trickling in that the Market has unofficially hit 50,000 apps. All attributions point to one place: AndroLib. AndroLib.com is a popular website used to search for apps, read reviews, and check pricing. ... Read more »
Yesterday, in an informal meeting, PayPal spoke about plans to introduce in-app purchasing options for iPhone and Android. As you may know, Google does not currently allow in-app purchases (peep the Market distribution agreement). However, Jonathan George (of Boxcar) confirmed, with PayPal, that the iPhone library would allow in-app purchases for "physical goods... Read more »
