Verizon Planning Shift To Voice Over LTE And CDMA-Less Devices

Smartphones are pretty expensive these days, and Verizon is looking to make the subsidies on its network cheaper. How is it going to do that? By cutting CDMA out completely. Their future phones may come with only LTE radios, nothing else, and use VoLTE (voice over LTE) for calling. VoLTE is coming sometime late this year or early next year, and LTE only… Read more

Late last week, Google officially started rolling out the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, version 4.0.4. Unfortunately, it didn’t include every Nexus device out there. While owners of the GSM-based Nexus S, the GSM-based Galaxy Nexus and the Motorola XOOM WiFi are happily using the newest update, the CDMA owners of the Nexus S and Galaxy… Read more

Sprint Hero OTA update

It’s rolling out and the reports are rolling in, and so far, it’s looking good. What is the “it,” you ask? The Hero updage that Engadget Mobile told us about a few days ago. The number one improvement I’m hearing about to far is a fix for the SMS glitch that was draining your batteries at far too rapid a rate. Some are claiming performance improvements… Read more

Sprint updates

We recently learned that HTC would be skipping the 1.6 update for European Hero owners; bringing them straight from 1.5 to 2.0. Now, Gearlog reports that Sprint is working on upgrades for the HTC Hero and Samsung moment, among some other cool things that may or may not include an Android with a built-in Mi-Fi-esque router. There’s no word on a time… Read more

Moment in the hizzy

Did I really just say that? Yes, yes I did. I’ve only got this particular device for a day or two, then it’s off to Kravitz in San Francisco for his reviews, dogfights, and whatever else he has in mind. I think another one might be headed my way though, so feel free to ask questions and tell me what you’d like to see on video. You can get me on Twitter… Read more

Sprint HTC Hero camera review

I heard from a lot of people who were frustrated by the camera coverage (or lack of it) from other Hero reviewers, so here’s what I hope is an in-depth review. The first video is me walking through the camera software. Below it are sample photos and videos from Hero. Other than switching video resolutions to show each of the available options, I left all… Read more

Your Hero Questions Answered, Part 4

Here is my 937th instalment of the DroidDog Hero series. Seriously though, I shipped the phone off today so if I missed a question that requires a video answer, it just isn’t happening. My speaking volume jumps up and down a bit depending on what time of day or night a given segment was recorded, so you’ll have excuse the Billy Mays effect. EDIT: Why did… Read more
