Samsung Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus for SFR France set to receive Android 4.0.5 by March
An image released by SFR France suggests that owners of the GSM Galaxy Nexus by Samsung, along with the Nexus S, will be receiving an update to Android 4.0.5 by some time in March. The carrier is already talking about future updates, laying it out in a nice table for owners to take a gander at. There isn't an exact date quite yet, but March is the month pegged for... It's rolling out and the reports are rolling in, and so far, it's looking good. What is the "it," you ask? The Hero updage that Engadget Mobile told us about a few days ago. The number one improvement I'm hearing about to far is a fix for the SMS glitch that was draining your batteries at far too rapid a rate. Some are claiming performance improvements as well.... We recently learned that HTC would be skipping the 1.6 update for European Hero owners; bringing them straight from 1.5 to 2.0. Now, Gearlog reports that Sprint is working on upgrades for the HTC Hero and Samsung moment, among some other cool things that may or may not include an Android with a built-in Mi-Fi-esque router. There's no word on a time frame for the... Read more » Moment in the hizzy
Did I really just say that? Yes, yes I did. I've only got this particular device for a day or two, then it's off to Kravitz in San Francisco for his reviews, dogfights, and whatever else he has in mind. I think another one might be headed my way though, so feel free to ask questions and tell me what you'd like to see on video. You can get me on Twitter @PhoneDog_John... I hope to be giving you all my own opinions and observations regarding the Samsung Moment, which will be the fastest Android I've held to date... once I've held one. For now, check out Engadget's take.... Read more » Sprint HTC Hero camera review
I heard from a lot of people who were frustrated by the camera coverage (or lack of it) from other Hero reviewers, so here's what I hope is an in-depth review. The first video is me walking through the camera software. Below it are sample photos and videos from Hero. Other than switching video resolutions to show each of the available options, I left all settings at... Read more » Your Hero Questions Answered, Part 4
Here is my 937th instalment of the DroidDog Hero series. Seriously though, I shipped the phone off today so if I missed a question that requires a video answer, it just isn't happening. My speaking volume jumps up and down a bit depending on what time of day or night a given segment was recorded, so you'll have excuse the Billy Mays effect. EDIT: Why did I think... You asked for it, so here it is. I'm not counting this one as a questions video because the segment is five minutes long. As I said, I've got one more Q&A vid (may be two parts!), the camera review, and then the phone is gone. Ask those questions,... Read more » Breakthrough in Hero battery life issue
A resourceful user over at community.sprint.com has discovered the cause of, and solution to, a major juice suck evident in HTC's Hero. Apparently, sending an SMS sends a signal to the dialer, then a bunch of complicated stuff happens, and your phone never goes to sleep. Thanks a lot, messaging app. To see how this is affecting your battery usage, go to: Menu <... Read more » Hero speed test and EvDo browser demo
I've had a lot of people contact me requesting that I run the speedtest app; both over EvDo and Wi-Fi. Results can vary wildly for both, so this really doesn't reflect what you should expect. But you wanted to see it, so here it is. There is also a quick demo of the browser over EvDo. I have two Hero videos left: the camera review and final questions. I still... Read more »
