Well, well, well… Motorola seems to be the talk of the town today. The bad news is that it isn’t all good news. It’s been going around for a minute now that a recent update to the Cliq has made things less than desirable, something Moto would like to fix. It looks like they’re working hard on a permanent solution, but for now, they’ve got ya covered.
You’re waiting for the update to 2.1, we know, but apparently Motorola wants to rub it in your face that you can’t have it yet. They’re planning on pushing out an update this week that is specifically designed to address lingering issues with the touchscreen, battery life, and GPS. According to Motorola: “CLIQ users: an update is coming this week with enhancements for battery life, touchscreen, and GPS. We’ll alert you when you can download it.” This info came way of their Twitter account (like most things, nowadays), and unlike some other update mishaps, we have no reason to think that Moto won’t get this to customers. Who knows, maybe the fixes in battery life and touchscreen are meant to address the 2.1 update due in the second quarter.
Remember when I mentioned that hackers were working on a ROM for the recently rooted Motorola Cliq? Well here’s a video from one hacker who has been cooking one and releasing progress updates via Twitter. The ROM is still missing some features, but he is making progress. Check it out:
It seems like we’re covering a lot of geeky hacks and mods lately, but that happens to be where some of the most exciting Android news is going down at the moment. But have no fear, I’m sure to return from CES in a week-and-a-half with all sorts of juicy on the new handsets. Until then, we’ve got plenty of rumors, buzz, and clever ways of getting more out of “yesterday’s devices.”
I know a lot of people were happy when the Motorola Cliq hacking community finally achieved root, and I also know that some were a bit disappointed when they found that no ROMs were available for flashing.
I’m back with another questions and requests series, and this time it’s all about MotoBlur. Well, that’s actually just where I thought the focus would be. It turned out that I got dozens of duplicate questions about how this device stacks up against the Behold II. A LOT of you wanted some definitive answers on updates. As of right now, I think the hacking community is likely closer to a major update than Motorola is! These two are the only Q&A vids I’m doing on Cliq.
