Many Verizon customers read – with giddy excitement – yesterday’s news that Android 2.1 dumps for both the Droid and Eris have been leaked to xda-developers. We saw video evidence of the bump at work on the Droid a few days ago, but this is the first (that I’ve seen anyway) of the upgrade on Eris. Q2 is still the projected dats for a public release, folks, but at least we know it’s out there. Check the video after the break:
Looks like another update is coming out for the Verizon Droid Eris. Unfortunately, not Sense 2.1 but a couple of bug fixes. This update should take care of some waking and connection problems. Rumors are saying it will be just a little over 5 MB and will update the build to 1.17.605.1 CL104882.
Between my coverage for PhoneDog and DroidDog, I’ve made a total of six videos about HTC’s Eris. Wow, really? From the unboxing to a camera walk-through, from widgets to your questions and requests, it’s all right here. I thought it might be helpful to gather them all in one place for holiday shopping research. I hope you enjoy it!

As reported by BGR, Verizon started sending out the update to a limited number of subscribers around Midnight this morning. Over the coming days, the list of recipiants will grow exponentially. The ROM is 1.16.605.1 and the radio version is 2.32.40.11.09. Here is a list of intended improvements:
While on a call and the device is in screensaver mode, pressing the End key now takes the device out of screensaver mode, and a second press will end the call.
On-call mute and speakerphone icon functionality is enhanced.
Upgraded functionality after activation eliminates the delay users were experiencing in receiving their first call.
Device now switches effectively from 1x mode to 3G.
Device no longer requires users to reselect a default email after power-cycling.
SMS and MMS messaging delivery is improved.
Eighty-character MMS/SMS message subject lines are now allowed
Improved picture messaging functionality allows messages from LG phones to be opened.
I no longer have an Eris on hand to check. I’m sure all of us would appreciate a quick report in the comments when you receive the update!
I’ve already shipped this phone off to Adriana Lee Dellario but there’s still one more video on the way. Well, the second part of this vid, which I’ll add to this post later tonight. Thanks for participating, everyone!
