Is it just us, or is Canada gobbling up as many Android-based devices as they can get? Well, chalk up the Samsung Galaxy as the next in line, as it’s been confirmed that the Canadian wireless network will be picking it up some time in March. Or at least within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just in case you might’ve forgotten, the Galaxy is running a 3.2-inch 320×480 touchscreen display, a 3.2MP camera on the back, MicroSD with expandable memory to 32GB, 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi, and GPS. Pretty standard for an Android device of this caliber. But! As of this writing, the Spica is still set to launch with Android 1.5, but there are rumors that it could still ship with (at least) Android 2.0. So, keep your fingers crossed. We’re waiting for some live shots of the device, but right now we’ll have to be okay with some dummy phones with the Rogers branding on the back. So, enjoy.
Patience is a virtue. Sometimes. There’s quite a few handsets out there waiting to get their fair share of the Android 2.1 goodness. Some of them, like the HTC Hero (European version) will be seeing that update in March. Others, like the Sprint version, will have to wait a bit longer. But all of that pales in comparison to this latest rumor, slipped out of Mobile World Congress from the folks over at The UnWired. According to their sources, it looks like Samsung’s first Android device isn’t going to get the coveted 2.1 upgrade. In fact, the Galaxy may not be seeing any updates at all. Shocking, right? Especially considering the Moment, another Android device from Samsung, is rumored to be receiving its update come February 22nd. As the title states, this is just a rumor; no one has been able to confirm this, and believe us, there’s plenty of people trying.
Hey, remember the Samsung Galaxy Spica? It’s been a long time comin’, but Samsung has officially announced the Samsung i5700 Spica Galaxy for US release. Samsung will sell the device as a multimedia and social networking phone, something we don’t really need more of but is in high demand. The full specs are as follows:

2009 was a wonderful year for the Android mobile operating system. We saw many good looking devices hit the market and hit them hard. With tech sites finally understanding what Android was made of, the little endeavor by Google made a splash with 1.5 and above. Softpedia – a software download and news site – decided to take the first shots at naming their top 5 Android phone of 2009, and this is what they came up with:
Motorola Droid – “The DROID sports a great feel and also has the looks, even if some say it is a little too ‘DROID-ish.’”
HTC Hero – “The Hero arrived on the shelves with the already known HTC Android chin, yet it lost that feature on its way to the US market, where it already landed on Sprint and Verizon.”
Samsung Galaxy I7500 – “For what it’s worth, Galaxy is one of the nicest devices running under Android, and might remain this way for a long time from now on.”
“HTC Phones” (Magic and Tattoo) – “Next on the list, there are two HTC phones, both of which easily earn a place in the top, namely the HTC Magic and Tattoo”
Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 – “Xperia X10 might be seen as falling behind already available phones like the Acer Liquid or others, yet it looks as appealing as any handset can be, so we’ll include it here.”
